On Tuesday, November 1, 2011, Martha Loraine Zetzsche Johnson McClure peacefully passed away. Loraine was born on December 30, 1929 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She grew up in Bowie, Texas. She was the eldest child with three brothers, Robert, George, and James, and one sister, Mary.
Loraine graduated from Texas Woman's University and moved to Fort Stockton, Texas, to teach school. She met J.T. Johnson in Fort Stockton, and they were married on June 15, 1953. They had 3 daughters and moved to Van Horn, Texas, in 1958. She taught home economics and sponsored many school groups and activities, including athletics and band. Her husband, J.T. passed away on Nov. 2,1970 from a rare birth defect. Loraine continued to raise her family in Van Horn until all 3 daughters graduated and headed off to college.
On Sept 8, 1981, Loraine married Jessie Dale McClure and lived in the country just outside of Bowie. Jessie Dale McClure died on Jan 8, 1984. Loraine moved in with her oldest daughter Clara LuEllen. She provided an important and instrumental hand in helping to raise her grandchildren, Delilah, Scotty, Janette, Loni and Holly. She took several trips to the panhandle to visit more grandchildren, Bobby and Amy. After playing such a key roll in the upbringing of her grandchildren, she continued to live, love, and help with family, staying in her oldest daughter's home for twenty-seven years, until her passing
Loraine was preceded in death by her husbands, J.T. Johnson and Jessie Dale McClure, her brother, Robert Zetzsche, her father, James Bedford Zetzsche and mother, Clara Isabel Delp Zetzsche.
She is survived by her three daughters; Clara LuEllen Mitchell Krauss (husband Richard), Margaret King, and Frances Lambeth (husband Bill), her sister; Mary Lockhart, and two brothers; George and James Zetzsche. She has seven grandchildren; Delilah (husband Steven), Scotty (wife Mia), Janette, Loni (with Robert), Holly (husband Trevor), Bobby, and Amy. She has three great grandchildren; Roland, Emily, and William.
Loraine has spent her life caring for and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She has continued to sew, scrapbook, collect dolls, read, and play with her kids all her life. She was passionate to share her knowledge and teach others throughout her life, forever the teacher. She befriended everyone and was loved by one and all. Loraine was the sweetest woman you would ever meet.
Loraine had the biggest, most loving heart. She never left anyone out. Her husband, J.T. brought home every stray he found and she took them all in, even the baby skunk he brought home one day! She was quietly stubborn and an extremely tough and strong woman her whole life. There was never a crisis or challenge that could not be overcome. She quietly moved through life spreading light and love.
A service celebrating her life will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:00am at the First Methodist Church in Van Horn, Texas. Loraine will be laid to rest next to her husband, J.T. Johnson, in Van Horn Cemetery.
The family has asked that donations be made, in Loraine's memory and honor, during Christmas in the form of dolls and toys to a local non profit organization of your choice for those in need of a helping hand. We have chosen this donation as a unique way to give to others and remember Loraine, who had a passion for collecting dolls, and a heart for others.
